Step by Step Image: Lake Eola Turtles

Jan 26, 2015

During a visit to Florida over the holidays, I went with Erin and my family to downtown Orlando and Lake Eola. Like any lake in Florida, there’s an abundance of wildlife, and it gave me the opportunity to use a new smartphone photography tool – my selfie stick (though I didn’t use it for a […]

2015 Goals

Jan 13, 2015

With a new year come new goals! I have a few (admittedly basic) goals as I really start getting more serious about iPhone photography. So, no further introduction is needed, I think. Here they are! 1. Improve my long-exposure abilities. Some of the photographs I admire the most are long exposures. With long-exposure, you can […]

Step-by-Step: How I Created This Photo

Jan 5, 2015

Sometimes you have to create the scene that you want, and that was the case with this photo. I really wanted a silhouetted subject to contrast with the bright colors of the ocean, but I didn’t have enough time to wait for someone to walk by on their own. So, I got some help. First, […]

Nominated for Trover’s Best of 2014 List!

Dec 23, 2014

Not really a post, but some exciting news: one of my photos from Lauterbrunnen was nominated for Trover’s Best of 2014 List! I’m still trying to figure out how it happened, and whether it’s a big deal or not, but it’s really awesome that someone liked my photo enough to choose it from out of […]

7My 8 Favorite Photo Apps

My 8 Favorite Photo Apps

Dec 18, 2014

When I began to get serious about taking good pictures with my phone, I realized the days of simply opening up the camera app, clicking away, and posting whatever picture resulted were behind me. Over the past 6-8 months, I’ve tried a wide variety of photo taking, photo editing, and photo modifying apps for iPhone. […]

8How and When to Use Blur Effects

How and When to Use Blur Effects

Dec 7, 2014

I often browse Instagram for inspiration, because you can find some really cool photos and then try to create something similar on your own. It can be a great source of ideas, and a way to improve my own skills. Recently, I’ve seen a number of awesome images that use blur effects with great success. I […]

9Practicing Long-Exposure Shots at Toccoa Falls

Practicing Long-Exposure Shots at Toccoa Falls

Nov 26, 2014

Ever see professional shots of waterfalls, where the water is nice and smooth, and wonder, “How do they do that?” Well, a technique called long-exposure is how they do it.

10Step by Step Image: Payne’s Prairie

Step by Step Image: Payne’s Prairie

Nov 21, 2014

There are really two parts to making a great photo: taking the shot, and editing the shot. I’ve been on a journey to improve my skills in both, and occasionally I’ll be taking you through the exact steps I used to take a photo from the composition to the original shot to the final edited version. […]
